would like to thank the many fans who cheered for Ray on his ride
for cancer.
Hi Ray,
Your devotion to this humble cause is extraordinary, and you have
been a driving force for me. My mother had breast cancer 3 years
ago, and now she finished her main treatments with positive results,
and we want more positive treatments. Unfortunatly my uncle Claude
died of lung cancer 3 weeks ago, as are thousands of people everywhere,
so there is lots of work to be done. You 'took the bull by the
horn' and what you did deserves all my appreciation. And thanks
to all ff that took on his shifts for free, the people that helped
the ride, etc! Ray, why not a ride around the Gaspé peninsula?
:-)
Jérôme Grand'Maison, S.I. Gaspé
Hi Ray,
I am very happy to hear that you have made it to your goal, I
was cheering for you all the way. Good job buddy, you are a hero
to all who have ever tried and will ever try anything even remotely
as extraordinary as what you have been doing these last few years,
you are a great person, and I look up to you with great admiration.
Moe Belec
Hi Ray,
Well done for all your efforts and congratulations on all your
achievements. Can't wait to meet you all next year.
Good luck and best wishes in all your endeavours.
Uncle Maurice.
Hi Ray,
Just wanted to congratulate you on your successful bike trip and
fund raising for the fight against cancer. I had the privilege
of listening to you speak at the Edmonton combat challenge banquet
and you are truly a credit to our profession.
Keep up the great work!
From your Brother
Sean Bellagente
Hi Ray,
I just spoke with Mom and Faye and they told me the great news
about being the regional champ in the over 40 class. Another amazing
accomplishment. I had to look up in the thesaurus to come up with
other adjectives describing your feat. The words I found were
astonishing, astounding, remarkable, wonderful, incredible, startling,
marvelous, miraculous, surprising, mind-blowing, mind-boggling,
and staggering. You are all of this and so much more. I am proud
to say that I am your sister. Good luck in your future challenges.
Love Connie
Congratulations
Ray!! Good luck in Edmonton. Tip a tall cold one, you deserve
it!!
Norm, BFD.
Hi Ray
We spoke to Dianne last weekend at the trailer.
She told us how you were doing and how proud she is of you. Wow
what an accomplishment so far. We as many others have been affected
by cancer in our
family. What you are doing is truly amazing. Way to go!
Good luck on the rest of your journey. Julie, Dave & Curtis
Watson.
Hi Ray! Congrats.
We want to wish you well in the Nationals this weekend. Enjoy
Diane's visit and hope to hear from you when you return. Hope
your drive back is a good, relaxing, quiet ride which I know you
are hoping for.
Your friends, Randy and Henri
Hi Ray,
I'm finally back to a computer so I can leave a message and see
where you have been the past three weeks. I was so happy to hear
from Faye and Mom that you made it to Edmonton safely. What a
journey you had and the stories you will be able to tell your
(or my) grandkids some day. We are all so very proud of you here
at home and wish so much that we could be there with you. Good
luck in your competition in Edmonton. Even if you come dead last,
you will always be first in my book.
Lots of love,
Connie, Allan, Michael, Kimberley, and J.J.
Congratulations Ray
You should be proud of a job well done - I know Belleville is
very proud of you! Good Luck in the Challenge and then have a
good long rest and we will see you when you get back home.
Mary-Anne Sills
Hi Ray -- Congrats on doing a great job. Just thought I'd let
you know you got the name wrong. Jim is Hendri. The retired Fire
Chief from Vermilion is Arnold, wife Lorna. No problem on our
account, you meet so many people who could remember them all.
But anyone reading it from Vermilion, would not know who you meant.
Just thought I'd let know, in case you wanted to correct it. Thanks.
Hope you do really will at all your events, and hope your legs
are not too sore.
Hey Ray,,,
WOW!! Fantastic job all around! The Ride is over, the weekend
near complete and another FireFit Challenge under your belt. If
you could bottle that energy and sell it you'd be a rich man.
But we all know how "rich" you are Ray in your talents,
dedication and love by what you have done here and in how you
live every day. You have no way of knowing how many people you
have touched, encouraged and amazed by your selfless act. Nancy
and I are so proud of what you have accomplished and know it doesn't
end here.
Good luck with next weekend. Looking forward to seeing you soon.
Peter
Hi Ray,
This is the next door neighbour clan here again! A huge Congratulations
on the finishing of your Ride!!! Good `luck in the `Nationals.....this
is us doing the wave for you`;

You are in our thoughts and in our hearts!

Hello to everyone following Ray on his incredible journey.
To help Ray meet his goal to raise money for cancer research,
I decided I would train to run a Marathon. About 13 weeks ago,
I started a 16 week program to run the half marathon in Prince
Edward County on Sunday, October 2/05. I used this endeavor to
set a goal to raise $2,000 to present to Ray to help him with
his goal. (A drop in the bucket, I know, but every penny helps!!).
I phoned, emailed, met with and wrote to companies, family and
people I know to ask for pledges to support me in my endeavour.
I am proud to tell you that, as of today, Sept 11, I am only $10
away from my $2,000 goal and although I have yet to run this 21.2
km's, I know I can do it because of Ray. Each time I go out to
train, I think about Ray in the heat, the cold and wet weather,
hungry and exhausted pushing himself up those hills for such a
great cause. He rode his bicycle 4,528 km's. I only have to run
21.2 km's. He gives me strength! I can do it!!
I'd like to thank everyone who signed my pledge sheets and donated
your money to help me achieve my goal. And a special thank you
to my sister, Sharon, for slowing her pace and running with me
on weekends and encouraging me to keep going when I didn't think
I could.
Thanks to all of you,
Dianne Ellis
Congrats Ray!
You did it! Peter and I are so proud of you! It takes alot of
courage and determination to do what you've accomplished. Your
efforts in the cancer community won't go unnoticed I'm sure.
I hope you do well in the upcoming Firefit challenge - you deserve
it.
We'll talk to you when you get back home.
Once again Ray we're so proud of you and love you very much!
Can't wait for you to tell us about all your adventures and experiences
along the way!
Nancy
To our friends and family
I have never been so proud of anyone! Seeing Ray ride into Edmonton
with the Fire truck lights flashing and all the other firefighters
so proud to ride along with him was just so very special for both
mom and I.
During the last couple of weeks we watched the anguish on his
face at the hills, the cold on those mornings that were only 5
degrees, and the day it was that cold and it rained - he still
just kept going.
We have also enjoyed seeing this wonderful country - and enjoying
the wonderful hospitality and support of so many people.
It has meant so much to me that Ray has accomplished this wonderful
dream of his. Merv and I were able to share it with him last year,
and I wish he could have been here in person this year, but I
know he was with us in spirit, and is every bit as proud as I
am.
To my friends at Delmar, thank you so much for your support and
allowing me to be able to take this time to be with Ray.
To Dianne, you have been his constant strength through this incredible
journey, he just lights up when you call - I know it is so hard
to be apart for so long, but he knows how much you care and your
love really got him here.
To Ray - words just cannot express just how proud I am of you,
I know how hard it has been, and how hard you worked at this,
and I am so glad to have been able to be a small part of this
- and to have been able to be here to see you ride into Strathcona!
I love you!
Your loving sister,
Faye
Hi everyone;
The balloons made me realize our boy made it amd I am sure every
member of his support team is swallowing the lump in their throat.
Good God, what human being would do that to his body and mind.
Don't know if it's a slow posting or what the deal is with donations
but while we have been cheering for Ray the amount of money donated
to the cause has not gone up. Bless the Ellis clan, their determination
has certainly made me dip into my pocket, but now I am asking
everyone out there to make it a nice even number. Don't know how
many miles Ray travelled or how many rotations of the pedals he
pushed, but I will make another donation to try at the very least
to push Ray's work over the $50,000 mark.
All you lovely, kind people who have followed Ray and his crew.
who have loved this family and added encouragement to this amazing
vigil and effort, please find 8,000 people to donate a dollar
or 4,000 people who will donate $2.00 or 2000 pople who will donate
$4.00 or 200 people who will donate $40 each. If I ever found
that kind of determination, with so much loving support, I would
hope that it would end in a way that made me realize that not
only did I push my endurance every one around me came along for
the ride.
Folks, somehow, lets make this total crash the $50,000 mark. It
takes so little for us, a penny at a time, to be a part of this
great endeavour and I think we all feel blessed for seing able
to claim some attachment to Ray's ride. Lets get it over fifty
grand.
Enjoy the shower Ray.
Ingrid
Hi Ray,
Congratulations on completing your goal with great success. We
are so proud of you. When I think of all the planning, organizing
and executing to make such an incredible contribution to help
toward finding a cure for such a horrible disease, all I can say
is what a hero you truly are. To have given up so much of yourself
and to put yourself through such grueling effort to raise funds
for cancer is such a selfless thing to do.
I also want to thank Dianne for all she has done as well. Not
only the physical things but the giving of her time to help and
the time she has been without you and of her support she has shown
you in your endeavor. It takes a special kind of person to support
someone on a journey such as this.
I know all of the people in our lives whom we have lost to cancer
were there riding alongside of you and helping to carry you through
the most difficult times. It was for them and for our loved ones
who are thankfully still with us fighting this disease who helped
drive you to this incredible finish.
Hat' off to you Ray, you are a truly incredible person. We love
you and Dianne dearly.
Here's to a safe trip home and much success at the Nationals.
Lots of Love,
Sharon
Congratulations Ray ! !
Our hero! !
A well deserved rest before competing in the Combat Challenge
on Saturday.
We wish You all the very best for Saturday, and the Nationals
next week.
Looking forward to seeing you when you return home.
Stay safe.
Say hello to Jean and Faye for us. Wish we could be there.
Love you
Stan and Millie
Hi Ray
So glad you completed your ride safely, not a big surprise considering
all your friends in very high places (ie. Merv) You have made
everyone so proud and am so glad you loved the balloons! All of
us at AdGraphics and the whole Whalen family congratulate you
on your wonderful success. Good luck with the nationals and enjoy
riding home (in a 4 wheeled vehicle) with your terrific sister.
Don't forget to check in with us when you get home. We'll have
a cd with Ray's Ride on it and a copy of all the heartfelt wishes
for you to keep as a memento of your journey.
Take care and give our best to Faye & your Mom

Way to go Ray!
Youve done a fantastic job!! I bet certain parts are really
sore. Haha!
Have a great time in Edmonton and well see you when you
get back.
I hope your drive back gives you time with your thoughts to reflect
on your incredible accomplishment. Do it your way.
You only go around once, and youre making this a ride to
remember!
Denise
Hi Ray;
We are writing to wish you the best. Good luck in this weekend's
challenge. We have been following your ride through the local
radio station, and have been thinking of you. Of course, like
everyone else, we have family and friends who have battled the
disease. Some are still with us, and some have gone. Thank you
for putting out this tremendous effort on their behalf. (and ours)
Kirk and Florence Fleming (from Goodlife)
As a friend of Faye's she has walked and talked us through your
incredible journey - your dedication and commitment is truly amazing.
You are in our thoughts and prayers.
Congratulations and best wishes!

You are truly an inspiration. You have set yourself an incredible
goal, both physically and financially and you have achieved both.
Know that the money you have raised for the Canadian Cancer Society
will go to assist many, many people living with cancer.
It is amazing what you have accomplished. One person can make
a huge difference in the fight against cancer and you have. Good luck in Edmonton. We will continue to track your successes.

A Long Ride
Its a long ride for me
A long road for them
The wind guides my journey
Hope and determination guides them
My journey makes me stronger
As they grow weaker
I fight for my friends and family
They fight for their lives
Waves of pride keep my spirits high
Giving hope they can kiss this disease good-bye
In my lifetime I would like to say
That we have come to see the day
We have finally found the answer
To end this disease we call Cancer.

Hi Ray,
Nice to see your progress! I guess you have a fairly accurate
record of the distance that you've covered and a good estimate
of how far you have to go..... but have you ever thought of how
many times your pedals have gone around! Hope this doesn't make
the last part of your trip seem longer...... From the guys working
for you in Belleville! Enjoy the remainder of your trip...and
Good luck!
Hi Ray,
You must be excited that your almost there. We've been cheering
for you all the way. I've been telling everyone I know about your
incredible journey. Again I can't tell you how proud I am to know
you and be a part of your family.
When I look at your site I become aware of some of the people
close to me (Uncle Eric, my Mom, Uncle Stan) that have struggled
and are continuing to struggle with this disease and I thank you
from the bottom of my heart for being so selfless and so courageous
as to stand up and help fight this terrible disease.
Your Cousin Alison
Hi Ray,
Stan and I are still here with you in spirit... Following every
word, picture and good wish you receive...
Also just loving all your messages and pictures. ( Boy do I envy
you ).
We are feeling tired pedalling all the way with you , but we are
sure you have the stamina to carry on.
Say Hello to my best friend Roberta in Vegreville when you get
there. She is a wonderful person.
Love to your Mom and Faye... I am sure that they are doing a great
job of looking after you..
The V.O.N. nurse who came to look after Stan last week, told us
she was so pleased to meet you in Ottawa.
Her boyfriend is an Auxiliary firefighter in Thurlough.
Stay Safe, We miss you,
Love you

Hi Ray!
September is here, and hopefully the weather will be a little
cooler and a lot less humid for the rest of your ride. With the
recent hikes in the price of gas, you've got the most economical
method of travelling, too bad most of us are not in the same shape
as you, and could only go for a few blocks and would have to quit!.
May luck be with you on the rest of your ride, and on your challenge
in Edmonton. We wish we could be there to see it!
Always thinking of you, and wishing you the best.
Lots of love, Paul, Maria and Sarina.
(Say hi to your mom and Faye for us!)
Hi Ray and Faye,
We all want to let you know that we're thinking about you today
and every day of your fantastic ride.
Our very best wishes from the showroom gang at Delmar.

Hello Ray,
You are an inspiration and have shown many of us a determination
that we don't always see in others. I sense God's mighty hand
guiding you, His strength pouring into your body to peddle on,
and His love in your heart, for you are on an incredible adventure.
Just know that you are not alone, He is there, talk to Him and
He will listen and He will comfort your lonely heart.
I, like everyone else have been following your ride. Your wonderful
mother-in-law has been the pillar of strength and information.
I grew up in Belleville and also worked with your mother-in-law,
many years ago. I keep in touch with Millie on a regular basis.
I received an e-mail from her asking me to check out your web
page. WOW, I got goose bumps all over when I read all the information
about your ride. "How Exciting"
I am so pleased to tell you that I live in one of the communities
that you plan to have a stop over at, it is Vegreville, Alberta.
I was wondering what your estimated time of arrival for that day
would be. I'd appreciate meeting and having a visit with you,
your mom & sister. Maybe we could do supper? Oh, also did
you book a chiropractor appointment for here in Vegreville? If
not, I'm sure I could set one up for you.
Looking forward to having a visit.
May God continue to Bless you.
Roberta
Hi Ray,
All I can say is WOW!
How incredible it is that you are doing all this for others. We
are all so very proud of your efforts and wish you nothing but
the very best in the days ahead. You are a strong, determined
individual who will help many people living with cancer.
Congratulations and Good Luck in Edmonton.

Watch Out!
I can't believe that the Prairies will ever be the same after
two dynamic Ellis siblings leave them behind. I imagine the flat
wheat fields rising into wavy curves as your bike leaves a trail
of emotion behind. Your story about the farmer paying for breakfast
was very moving. That man probably never could see himself doing
something so heroic as riding thousands of miles for a cause,
nor can I, but what the story reminds me about is that one small
gesture, by one simple human being, can make all the difference
to a personal day in the life of a solitary rider. Your sharing
your ride and your experiences keeps the dedication and reason
for this ride alive in my day and in my prayers. Thanks for all
efforts. Give your sister a hug for me.

I hear the ride is going great. I get an update from Dianne on
a regular basis. I am having trouble beating Charlie and Rob at
shoes so you had better hurry up and finish so we can hammer those
two. Every body at the park sends their best and are constantly
checking with Dianne to find out how you are doing. Sharon and
the boys send best wishes. Stay strong and keep up the great work.
Pete
Hi Ray
I've tried many times to e-mail you but no luck, Dianne gave me
this address.
I just wanted you to know that I go on the web site every chance
I can to see your
progress. Dianne told us about Steinback and Heather's greeting
for you.
Charlie and I are with you in spirit, take care and ride safe.

Hi Ray
Your updates continue to inspire, motivate and keep us very busy
at the AdGraphics' studio (haha). We bet you are very thankful
for the beautiful, but most importantly flat prairies, especially
on this last leg of your journey.
Thank you for all you are doing to help others find a cure for
this insidious disease. We wish you continued success on your
journey.
Pedal strong, remember we are all with you in spirit!

entire ride we consider ourselves lucky to know such a fine guy.

Hi Ray!
I'm writing this on August 26. Today, for the first time, we were
able to get the updated information on your website. It was wonderful
to read your reports about the days' rides, and see some of the
pictures along the way. We go out biking with Sarina, and after
a few kilometres, we're tired out and ready to go home. Lord only
knows how you are doing what you are doing. You are in our thoughts
every pedal of your amazing trip. Say hi to Faye and your mom
for us. It must have been wonderful to see each other in Winnipeg,
I wish I could have been there for that! Hey, off topic, when
are we going to go to Gananoque to do a tandem skydive??? I think
I could talk Maria into it! The 3 of us send you our love, and
may Godspeed.
Paul, Maria and Sarina.
Hello old buddy,
Glad to hear that you are doing so well, the steep hills cannot
be bothering you at all. I can remember you and I skiing down
large hills at night with little or no vision just to see who
made it down to the bottom first. I better not tell too many old
stories on the web.
Also I have some pictures from the escort through Quinte West,
The Combat Challenge boys just left my office and send their regards.
Much success,
Tones are going off for a call at this time,
see you soon have to go,

This is your wife's cousin Alison. I had no idea that you did
this. It is absolutely wonderful. I had a hard time not crying
reading your web site just out of sheer pride to know you are
a member of our family. Uncle Stan and Aunty Mildred must feel
very proud and fortunate to have you for a son in-law. My heart
and best wishes go out to you on your journey. Now that I know
about your fight for cancer and your great trek I will look forward
to watching your web site for updates on your progress.
Cheers,
Alison
PS tell Dianne I say hello when you speak to her.
Man what a Ride Best I can figure it -- You sat down one night,
got yourself one real neat hair cut and decided to get on your
bike and lay some rubber all over the country side. I didn't see
it written any where, but how was the pot hole after you smashed
into it?
You are one amazing guy - I look forward to the next time I see
you and shake your hand. Your grit and determination to see this
very difficult task through is testament not only to your character,
but it shows your genuine desire to help others.
Remember "Life is a bike"

Dear Friends and Family,
I am writing this message today, not to Ray, but to you, the many
friends and family members who have taken the time to send Ray
your best wishes, blessings, God speed, and love.
Ray & I speak daily, so I know how inspired he is by the many
letters he is receiving every day on his website. I can tell you
that every word written is read and means more to him than any
of you can even begin to imagine. He looks forward to the letters
every night when he arrives at his destination, hot, tired and
sore. As he rides the roads alone, he has a lot of time to think
and he finds it refreshing to remember the words you send.
Id also like to thank those of you who have sponsored Ray
and those who have sent donations to the Cancer Society since
he began his journey. Also, to those who have seen him riding
on the road and given him a thumbs up or Way
to Go, Ray. That makes his ride much easier when hes
feeling tired.
And a special thank you to Kim Whalen and her staff at AdGraphics without
your great website ideas, none of these messages would have been
possible.
Please continue to write! We all look forward to reading them.
Ray is an amazing man to take on such an unselfish and incredible
task. I thank God he brought us together seventeen years ago and
I appreciate him and love him dearly.

According to your schedule this is the last day in "Thief

Does this mean it is all down hill from now on, or is it the other
way round. Still we are all with you all the way, and may God
give you good speed. Perhaps you will tell me all about it next
year when I come over to see you. Unless you will be on another
one of your Rides.

Hi Ray,
I scrolled through your website and didnt seam to find any
well wishes from the Campbell Clan in Manitoba, so Im going
to go out on a limb and count myself as the first one to send
you an email to wish you well on your ride West. Faye told us
about your ride for cancer months ago, but more importantly shes
told us that youre going to spend some time in Winnipeg
to meet part of our family. Lord help you, as you probably dont
have a full grasp on the motley crue that you are about to meet
here in Winnipeg (Uncle Mervyn would agree with this too)
but I can promise you that it will be a memorable visit packed
with fun & good times and of course some frosty
refreshments for you & a glass of wine for Faye.
See you in a few days.
Congratulations on your efforts!

Saw you in
Burnsville, MN
I had to get on the internet and find out what your ride was about
after I saw you ride through Burnsville, MN. I gave my daughter
a ride to work and passed you & the van. After I dropped her
off, I parked by the roadside so that I could read your signs
as you went by. Sorry we have so many stoplights on Cty 42, they
aren't timed well either!!
Take care!

Hi Ray
I hope you had a good rest yesterday. According to the weatherman
the rain we were supposed to get this weekend is coming from Madison,
Wisconsin.
Faye and I are going to Toronto on Monday. Chris called last night
and said there's a bat in Faye's house, oh joy! So I hope it's
gone before we get there. You know how petrified I am even if
a moth comes near me.
Lots of people are asking about you and wishing you well. Say
hi to Don.

13 degrees, but getting humid towards the end of the week.Say

all thinking of you as we 'spin away' here at the club, and watching
you progress on our own map of your journey. Congratulations for
doing such an amazing thing; you definitely inspire!

Hello Ray
We are Dot and Eldon from Florida, I have been chatting back and
forth with Mildred today. I just found out from her that you are
her wonderful son-in-law and NOT her son. Ha Ha.
You are riding for a very good cause. We have had lot of cancer
in our family and it is terrible.
God Bless you as you ride from State to State. You will be in
our thoughts and prayers!

Hey Ray,,
Great job on the weekend!!
Fantastic times to Windsor,,, not sure if even Lance and his team
could have kept up to you. ;o) I hope you find better roads along
the way,, you've got better things to be doing than changing tires
and duct-taping equipment together. I hope you're getting the
weather like we've got up here in Pembroke,, it has finally cooled
down to a comfortable 22C, and the humidity has gone as well.
Gads, starting to sound like the marathon of hope here,, but somebody
already took that name, another Great Canadian with the same motivations
as yourself.
All joking aside Ray,, we're proud of what you're doing and thankful
there are people like you that have the drive and desire to help
all those suffering from this terrible disease and all those who
may benefit from the research and cures that will be developed
in the future!
Good luck and God Bless, and watch out for the potholes!!!
Peter & Nancy
Hi Ray,

accomplished up to now.

Hi Ray!
Congratulations on your Firefit time on Sat!! 2:11 - fabulous
- I am sure it would take me that long to do the stairs - without
the gear! Sounds like yesterday's trip through Detroit went well
- enjoy today!
Edmonton - only 9 degrees today - and that's the high! Have you
got your snow tires for the bike??
Have a great ride!
Love, Faye
Psst Dianne....did
you know that the ordinary, extraordinary man you share your life
with is creating a legacy that will outlive us all. Did you know
that when he peddles against the wind he feels your hand on his
shoulder telling him he is strong enough, big enough, tough enough,
to try to save lives.

Hi, I heard
you on Lite 107.1 this morning. You sounded a little sleepy but
the interview was good. Hope you got a good rest last night. I
hope it doesn't rain for your challenge tomorrow. Have fun today
and lots of luck tomorrow.
Love Mom.
Hey Ray....
heard you took a pot hole on at full thrust. You should know that
pot holes are a protected species in this part of Ontario and
anything you do to disturb their environment is severely punished.
There is a movement afoot, (as there are people who believe that
humans should come first and cars are sacred) that have worked
stealthfully at night with their stinking tar ovens drowning the
pot holes. They are not even merciful with the babies that haven't
fully developed, pouring their inky poison, making it look at
dawn's light that they never existed at all. The whole thing chokes
me up. I, for one, am proud to be a Pot Ho and know somethimes
we unconciously do damage. Hell, I will never forget the eyes
of the racoon that ran out in front of my car last year. the thump
and the horrible realization that I a full fledged Pot Ho, killed
a creature. I am sure that's probably the way you felt out there
on highway # 5 and I am sure glad it wasn't a male pot hole. They
can get awfully nasty and aggressive and don't die without taking
a violator with them.
Glad you're okay.
Thinking about you, Ingrid
Hi Ray, Good
luck on your competition this weekend and try to rest before your
next leg of your ride.
